The Student Advocates for Valuing the Environment Foundation, 501(c)3, is a Helena based non-profit dedicated to environmental stewardship to daily habits, conservation policy and recycling. SAVE works to directly expand recycling infrastructure, affect positive environmental policy, and provide educational resources and events in Helena and across Montana.
SAVE started as a student recycling and environmental education effort at Carroll College in Helena, MT. In 2004, alumni of this effort chartered a non-profit to bring this mission to the greater Helena community and the state of Montana.
SAVE hosts and supports large community events, provides recycling to schools and businesses, and has traveled the state with country music and education on 100% homemade biodiesel. We have successfully passed numerous pieces of environmental legislation, including: gray water, provisions for homemade fuel, legalization of neighborhood electric vehicles, funding for biodiesel research, green building and electronics recycling. We work to make Savemobile.org a leading recycling guide for the state.
Current initiatives include working with students across the state to network environmental efforts in higher education, development of gray water materials for builders and enthusiasts, renovating our state recycling guide resource, and developing model recycling programs to meet challenges for rural communities.
